Project: 3307 - The Grove Coach House

Client: Private

Location: Pennistone

Works: Conversion of an unused Coach House into a single dwelling

Sectors: Conservation

We were approached to convert this building into a residential dwelling for the clients parents; At present, the grove coach house is unused and falling into disrepair.  The most notable feature of this project is the glazed/metal  porch area that protrudes from the original house. The use of materials here creates a distinct contrast to the coach house; Therefore while it functions as a stunning and practical addition, it does not distract from the original character of the coach house. The original barn doors have been pinned back to ensure this original feature is remembered and new glazed doors flood the kitchen with light. As the coach house is in a conservation area, we have been sensitive to its history and therefore kept as many external and internal features as possible; for example the original window placements or the large timber truss displayed within.
